Free · Step counter & pedometer · no account, no GPS
Every step, counted quietly. Your steps stay on your phone.
Amble counts your steps all day with your phone’s own step sensor — in a pocket, a bag or your hand, with nothing to tap. Set a daily goal, keep a streak, and see your day, week and month at a glance. Steps that look like a bus or train ride are held back until you say they were yours. No sign-up, no GPS, and your step history never leaves your phone.

Three steps
Counting in under a minute
Allow activity access, tell it about you if you like, and pick a goal. After that there is nothing to tap: Amble counts in the background.
Your phone asks before any app can read its step sensor. On Android 14 and later you can also let Amble use Health Connect as a backup, so a gap is filled if the phone closes it.

Tell it about you, if you like
Height and weight are optional and only estimate distance and calories. Skip them and Amble uses an average.

Pick a goal and walk
Choose a daily goal and turn on notifications for the live count, a goal alert and an evening nudge. Your first steps show up within seconds.
What it does
A step counter that stays out of your way
It counts all day from the phone’s own sensor, and only asks for your attention when it is unsure.
Counts in the background
Amble reads your phone’s own step sensor, the most accurate option and nearly free on battery. On Android a live count sits in the notification bar and counting restarts after a reboot. Phones without a step sensor fall back to motion detection, with a sensitivity setting.
Bus and train steps, held back
A bumpy ride can look like walking to a step sensor. Amble uses your phone’s activity detection — never location — to spot a vehicle, keeps those steps out of your total, and asks “Were you walking or running just now?” Yes adds them; otherwise they are discarded after 48 hours.
Goals, streaks and badges
Pick a daily goal — 8,000 is a good start — and keep a streak going. Twelve achievements to unlock, from your first 1,000 steps and a 10k day to a month-long streak, a marathon’s 42 km and 500 km in total.
Day, week and month
Today’s ring opens hour by hour. History shows your day from 6 am to 9 pm, your week against your goal line and a month calendar with goal days lit up, with your daily average, distance, calories, active time and most active hour.
Reminders that know when to stop
An evening nudge if you are under 70 % of your goal (it mentions your streak when it is at risk), a note when you reach your goal, and on Android a nudge to move after an hour without walking. Quiet hours hold them back, and Amble never sends more than two a day.
Yours to keep
No account and no cloud copy. Save a backup file wherever you choose — Downloads, Google Drive or a USB stick — and restore it on a new phone; matching days keep the higher count. Share your week as an image card in three styles. Light or dark, metric or imperial.
no phantom steps
Straight about accuracy
A bus on a bumpy road can feel like a brisk walk to a step sensor. Amble does not guess: steps it is unsure of are held out of your total, shown to you, and added only if you say they were yours.
Uses your phone’s activity detection. Never your location.

FAQs
Straight answers
What people ask before they trust a step counter.
Do I need an account or an internet connection?
No. There is no sign-up, and counting works offline. When there is a connection the app fetches its remote settings, loads ads, and sends usage counts and crash reports to Google, as the privacy policy describes — never your steps.
Does Amble use GPS or my location?
No. Distance is your steps times your stride. The travel guard uses your phone’s activity detection, not location, and the location permissions are blocked in the app.
What happens to steps counted on a bus or train?
When your phone’s activity detection says you are in a vehicle, or the step rhythm is not a human one, Amble holds those steps out of your total and asks whether you were walking. Yes adds them to the right hours; No, or no answer within 48 hours, discards them. Walking through a moving train is held too — one tap adds it. On Android this needs Google Play services; without them Amble checks the step rhythm only.
Why did counting stop?
Some phones close background apps to save battery. If Amble finds a gap it says so on Today, and Settings → Keep counting in background walks you through the settings for your phone’s maker — Xiaomi, OnePlus, OPPO, realme, vivo, Samsung, Huawei and others. On Android 14 and later, Health Connect backup can fill the gap.
How accurate is it?
It uses the phone’s own step sensor where there is one, which is the most accurate option and the lightest on battery. No phone counts perfectly, so Amble never claims the count is exact, and held steps stay visible and reversible for 48 hours.
How do I move my history to a new phone?
On the old phone, Settings → Privacy & about → Back up and restore → Save backup file, and save it somewhere you can reach. On the new phone, install Amble and use Restore from file. Days already on the new phone are kept, and matching days keep the higher count.
On iPhone, why are some older days missing?
iPhone keeps its step data for only seven days. Amble saves its own history whenever it runs, so open it at least once a week; days it never saw show as No data rather than a guess.
Why are there ads?
They keep the app free: one ad on the Today screen and a banner on History’s week view. Never full-screen, never during setup.
Is it free?
Yes. There is no subscription and no account.
